FG taping the soles (2)

Three more hours between sunday night and tonight. It's VERY hot here these days and working with resin and fiberglass is very uncomfortable both in daytime (due to the heat) and in nighttime due to the mosquitos. Anyway, we FG taped the rear sole. We tried another filler called Microballs but the putty comes out dark gray and is quite coarse. Anyway, no big deal. Here's a pic

Total work time to date: 310 hours

  3. Hi Pippo
Nice job and you must feel good nearing the end of the project.

I am considering building a trimaran and the seaclipper 20 is on my short list. I was hoping you could provide some insight on how/why you choose the SC20 over other designs. I am also considering the W17 Trimaran and the Scarab 18 trimaran. I'm looking for a boat the rigs quickly, sails well (doesn't have to be the fastest tri but faster than a monohull), comfortable for a family of 4 on day sails. I have no multihull experience but 40+ years of sailing monohulls. Here in Maine, USA you do not see a lot of multis. You can email me at davidhughes_casabaATyahooDOTcom, note the underscore between my name and casaba.

    Thanks in advance

    1. Hello David,
I am where you were at in 2015. Which boat did you build? How does it meet your needs regarding weight/lightness, size, and convenience?
      Thank you.

    1. Hi Recep. I choosed the SC20 because I expect to occasionally sail with more the 2 peoplu on board, and because the rig is readily available.

  6. Hi all, I just wanted to update you on my status. I purchased a Seaclipper 20 from another gentleman located in Vermont. I have had the boat in the water for about a month now and have made some reports on my sails on Small Trimarans blog. (http://smalltrimarans.com/blog/seaclipper-20-mad-dash-2nd-impressions/, http://smalltrimarans.com/blog/seaclipper-20-mad-dash-first-impressions/) You can read a little more about Mad Dash here: http://smalltrimarans.com/blog/seaclipper-20-trimaran-mad-dash-for-sale/. In the end, I think the W17 would have been to small for my family of 4. Trimarans are very sensitive to weight and weight distribution.

Although I have never been on a W17, it looks like a great boat for 2. I think it is more performance orientated then the Seaclipper 20. That being said, the SC20 doe well as I noted in my second impressions post. If you go the W17 route, be prepared to pay a lot money for a costume sail unless you are able to use one from another boat.

    Regards

  7. David, thanks for the links. FOr sure it's a fantastic boat. We have been slowing down a lot for various reasons, but we definitely expect to lauch Geodetica next summer.
